Art Mart

This weekend I will be participating in the White Rock Lake Bath House Cultural Center's "Art Mart". The proceeds of the "Art Mart" and art silent auction benefit the Bath House Cultural Center's year-round visual and performing arts programs. The Bath House Cultural Center is a facility of the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs that is dedicated to fostering the growth, development, and quality of multi-cultural arts. The center emphasizes innovative visual and performing arts as well as other multi-discipline events throughout the year. http://www.bathhousecultural.com/ http://www.bathhousecultural.com/08wintersale.html

Crosses and More Crosses

It has been a busy week for me. I have joined my first Etsy team...Etsy Texas Crafters. I am so excited to be part of this organization to promote our hand made items. The address is http://team.etsy.com/profilest/tx.shtml . You can find all kinds of wonderful items hand made by Texas artisans.

I have also added weathered barn wood crosses to my collection. I love the rustic look and feel of barn wood. I have only completed one, but am working on 19 others. They will be all different styles.

I will be doing a home show this Thursday at 11220 Leachman Circle in Dallas. This is in a beautiful home where I will be showing my crosses along with several other artisans from jewelry to paintings. Invitations have been sent out to over 400 individuals. If you are interested in coming it will be from 9:00 AM-2:00 PM then 7:00 PM to whenever!

I have added some links at the bottom of my blog to shops that sell my crosses. I also added a link to a shop that makes the best homemade jelly ever. Her raspberry jalapeno is unbelievable!

The Cross

We all know where the cross came from. It started out as a shameful construction with the sole purpose of inflecting death. After Jesus was crucified and rose from the dead it became a sign of life and hope in ever aspect of the word.

Today we decorate our homes with all styles of crosses. They are used by some as a decorative item only, and by others for religious reasons. What ever your ideology it is a thing of beauty.

I have been designing crosses as a piece of "wall jewelry". My Memory Crosses are made from substantial pewter crosses as the base. I then add wonderful antique and vintage pieces of jewelry. I use earring, brooches, pins, rhinestone shoe buckles, cameos, beads, stringed pearls or rhinestones, crystals, jade, semi precious stones, and any other beautiful piece I can find. All these are then surround by wonderful sea shells.

My favorite use of this creation is to make "Memory Crosses" for individuals using their own or inherited jewelry. Why keep your memories in a drawer? I arrange them on a pewter cross, and you have a beautiful piece of art to admire daily and to remember your loved one.

You can find a few of my crosses on http://www.crossesbyclaudia.etsy.com/ . I have many more of all styles, and for all occasions to choose from. If there is a particular style or occasion you are looking for let me know. I am sure I can match your need to one of my crosses.

I am in the process of adding crosses made from old barn wood. These will have a rustic and more eclectic flavor. Keep a watch out...they are coming soon!
